Letters and Sounds Phase 1 with Phonemies: A Sound Start to KS1 for Non-Speaking, EAL & Neurodivergent Learners
10-day plan with MySpeekie® to develop speech sound awareness through Phonemies Play – before starting systematic synthetic phonics (SSP).

Letters and Sounds
Phase 1 with Phonemies - Phonemic Awareness Mastery
Day 10
Goals of the Day!
Continue with the activities!
Our focus is now on connecting Phonemies® (Speech Sound Monsters), Sound Pics® (graphemes), along with a few high-frequency words! We will begin combining them to build sentences. By now the children will know most of the Monster Sounds (and can check them with the Phonemies screen if needed)
Because the children are developing such strong phonemic awareness, they can now type sentences using MySpeekie and see the written words. If they want to see a word mapped, you can type it for them to reveal the Monsters, as they likely can't do that (yet).
You can also map words (Map and Drag) and download them to print, creating their personal bank of mapped words. This helps us see which words matter to them—showing that we are truly listening and valuing their ideas.
Let's read sentences!
Grown-Ups Corner - Day 10 Preparation
Let's start 'following the monster sounds' with sentences, and also build sentences
They can do this without writing them - fine motor kills can take a lot longer to master. Many children are not really ready yet.
Day 10 clips at home, nursery (kindy) or the classroom!
